Winspearation '97 saw over 60,000 people pass through Edmonton's new Winspear Centre, and the word spread quickly around the world as to the excellence of the acoustics as well as the facility. In March of 1999, the Canadian Session and Touring Industry awards named the Francis Winspear Centre for Music the Performing Arts Centre of the Year.
