CREATIVE SMALL GROUP WORKSHOP June 21 to June 30, 2013 Yardbird Suite, 11 Tommy Banks Way
The JAZZWORKS CREATIVE SMALL GROUP WORKSHOP (CSGW), is an educational component of the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, as a professional development workshop that has been created by the Edmonton Jazz Festival Society (EJFS) for university/college aged musicians, young jazz professionals and exceptional high school students. Under the direction of Joel Gray and Kent Sangster, this summer outreach program provides an inspired setting for collaboration, development and learning through mentorship. Selected performers from the 2013 Edmonton International Jazz Festival line-up have committed to share their knowledge and experience by leading seminars on various topics including, but not limited to: performance, composition; professionalism; and the business of music.
Participants are selected through recorded audition and placed in small ensembles consisting of a full horn section and rhythm section. In this one-week intensive, the aspiring musicians are given the opportunity to further develop their skills within the jazz realm having exposure to adjudications, seminars, rehearsals, and a concert performance during the Edmonton International Jazz Festival. In addition, participants are often invited to private listening experiences during the sound checks of some of the Festival's international artists!
This experience is a once in a life-time opportunity for growth in the presence of established International, Canadian and Alberta musicians alongside peers and professionals.
